Briefly describe what happened

Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC)

Newborn necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a severe gastrointestinal condition primarily affecting premature infants, characterized by inflammation and damage to the intestinal tissue. Usually this is caused because of newborns being fed Cow's Milk Formula. NEC often occurs within the first few weeks of life and can lead to symptoms such as abdominal distension, feeding difficulties, and bloody stools. In severe cases, NEC can cause tissue death (necrosis) in the intestines, which may require surgical intervention. It is a critical medical concern in neonatal care, requiring close monitoring and prompt treatment. Families affected may be entitled to compensation. On average, compensation varies between $100,000 and $1,500.000.

The minimal likelihood of NEC has been linked to a unique nourishment approach referred to as the Fairview gradual-advance feeding method, established at Fairview Hospital in 1986. As outlined in a retrospective analysis spanning two decades and disclosed by our associates at Fairview Hospital almost ten years ago, this procedure distinguished itself from prior protocols by implementing a slow, continuous-drip enteral feeding regimen introduced at a later stage.

Winning a trial gets plaintiffs compensatory damages to cover losses. Serious cases might also receive punitive damages. Settlements mean agreed compensation for plaintiffs.

How may we be of assistance to you?

An Exclusively Human Milk Diet (EHMD) is comprised solely of human milk acquired through breastfeeding or expressed breast milk, with formula being excluded. This diet offers essential nutrients, bioactive elements, and protective agents vital for the growth and well-being of premature infants.

Human milk offers optimal nourishment, guards against infections, and fosters improved gut health. Healthcare experts can bestow a multitude of advantages upon premature infants by harnessing the potential of human milk, ensuring their nutrition, upholding their health, and nurturing their overall welfare.

Baby Formula Brands

Brands in NEC lawsuits include several Enfamil and Similac cow’s milk baby formulas. Premature babies fed baby formula were at a significantly higher risk of developing NEC than those fed human milk exclusively, according to an observational study published in Neonatology. Some of the brands that are listed are Similac, Enfamil, Enfacare, EleCare and Alimentum. However, the ongoing lawsuit is not limited to these brands.
